SecureITnet is the secure off-site on-line data backup solution from Forward ITC which provides secure data backup and storage to businesses in Cornwall, or anywhere in the UK.

Self Managed Service

This service is for those with some technical ability who would still like to monitor the backup themselves.  Each day email backup logs are forwarded to the client to check and monitor.  On site help, support and physical return of data will be charged as below.

Fully Managed Service

We also provide a fully managed service in which the backup jobs are monitored and checked daily.  Should there be a problem with the backup, we will contact you.  This option includes all relevant support at no extra charge, (including on-site); and is inclusive of physical return of data on appropriate media within 4-24 hours dependant on postcode.  We will even archive 'live' data to DVD's in one of our fire-proof data-safes, which are specially built to look after digital media, not just paper, to help you manage your monthly costs.

Payment

Fees are payable by monthly standing order, or an annual invoice payable up front by cheque or bank transfer.  All contracts run for the minimum of one year.

Your Data Storage Requirement

You need not worry about calculating your data backup requirement in too much detail. We can measure the amount that you download at the first backup, and then fine tune the amount of data to be stored to suit your needs and your budget.

Calculating your data requirement

If you want to calculate the size of your data in advance (using Windows), simply right click on the folders you will need to back up, select "properties", and write down the file size. Add these up in a List and the total is your requirement. Remember that there are 1024 Kilobytes (KB) in a Megabyte (MB), and 1024 MB in a Gigabyte (GB). To keep it simple you can use 1000 instead of 1024 for practical purposes.

If you are using Outlook for your emails and would like to back these up, on the Outlook Menu select File / Data File Management / Data Files / Personal Folders. There are normally 2 files, Outlook.pst and archive.pst. You can find these and check their size using Windows explorer. Their normal location is likely to be something like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your-Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

Data Compression

Finally you have calculated the amount of data you want to backup, we will then compress it during the backup process by approximately 40%, so the space you use is less than the data you ahve to back up. So for every 1Gb of data you want to backup, calculate the volume as being closer to 600MB. The amount of compression varies upon the type of data you have to backup. Image and ZIP (already compressed) files may only compress by 10%, while common formats including word documents and spreadsheets may compress by as much as 80%. So if your data is mostly of one type calculate compression differently, otherwise just average at 40%.
